I told my brother I'd be happy to take a few photographs at his wedding in Johnstown, Pennsylvania - and I ended up having so much fun, I shot the whole thing! That's the serious danger of loving your job. My sister-in-law with her boys, my sweet girl in full curtsy & Caleb with his favorite person ever, daddy... The cousins! The Groom, my brother, being as hot as he possibly can :) Since this was a second marriage for both of them, Andy & Mary Beth decided to b

shopping, singing, cajoling, shopping
I find it somewhat fascinating how many moms will apologize to me for their children's behavior. I'm always quick to point out that, first of all -- and most importantly -- some of the best images are Kids Not Behaving!! And, secondly, I am in no position to accept such an apology. As a mom myself, I am actually in the final stage of trying to let go of the apology thing, at least when there are no major offenses committed. Especially when in The Store, I feel there is on

Inside Weddings Magazine
We are quite happy to see the new Winter issue of the beautifully-produced national glossy INSIDE WEDDINGS MAGAZINE, as it features my photographs of Elisabeth & Brian's gorgeous Daufuskie Island wedding in a generous 6-page spread... Interesting story behind the finding of the magazine - I received a text from Elisabeth's mom letting me know it was out on the newsstands just as I was walking past an airport magazine shop between flights. I popped in and and saw it dis

Wow - 110,000 + and counting!
We launched our brand new blog in early September, and we have simply loved the emails and feedback we've received - thank you! We all have such a passion for this work, so the feedback is wonderful. Our blog has received over 110,000 visits just since last month (as defined as "real" blog downloads, not just engine crawls & such), and we are always amazed at how many people tell us they keep us on their bloglines or RSS feeds. Please note that we are still in a bit of

last beach session at wrightsville! (aka pt. 7)
The Stone Family drove out to the coast just for these family photographs, and they had to get back on the road and drive several hours home afterwards. They showed up looking great - in combination of cute sundresses, denim, light tops. The girls' hair looked great, complete with the perfectly coiffed bow. Luckily I started shooting right away, because.... THIS happened very fast. A beeline for the water and COMPLETE IMMERSION! Mom and dad could not have been more easyg

Life is a beach pt. 6
The Smith Family lives in Manhattan but were traveling through North Carolina and Wrightsville Beach, where we met up to capture these beautiful images along the shore. These two little speedy monsters both have such a "J.Crew Catalog" look to them, but they are definitely all boy(s)! Attentive seagulls really add to the Run Free feel of this image..

Life is a beach, pt. 5
The Desai Family met with me just weeks before they packed up to move to Texas. We had such a high-spirited shoot, and we were able to package up quite a beautiful collection of matted and mounted photographs to display in their new home. Especially helpful when they miss the North Carolina beaches. This 3-series came from the first few shots of the session: These four were a fun collection: All the light reflected in her eyes just made these images! It's not just the go

life is a (back to wrightsville) beach, pt. 4
I just have to start out with my very favorite image from this shoot with The Barber Family. How ingenious is this spontaneous move? I mean, the ultimate sun protection, right? And it's always nice to try a new look now & then... ...although these are quite lovely, as well... The blue of her eyes matched the sash in her dress (and her sister's, the next photo), which also matched the blue of the water as it thinned on the shore... Thank you to the low-flying seagull

Life is a (topsail) beach, pt. 3
The Shah Family all met up at Topsail Beach for a reunion week on the beach, and I showed up to find a big, high-energy family ready to play... Brother, sister, and all the wind blowing in the right direction. This is one of those fabulous moments - simply a gift to a photographer. She didn't like the feel of her underwear, so she decided to get some additional fresh air, and I had the wonderfully good fortune to be standing in the best position for the shot! Sometimes t

life is a (wrightsville) beach, pt. 2
Little Zeke was relishing his first feel of sand on his toes...and his parents were delighted by his confused and adorable reaction. I like to think of children looking at a photograph like this years later and really seeing out crazy their parents were - and hopefully still are!! - about them... The whole family is getting ready for Zeke's new little brother, on the way... Can anyone get enough of naked baby?? This is such a great moment - the way they are looking at ea

life is a (wrightsville) beach, pt. 1
I had a wonderful 4th of July week at Wrightsville Beach (did I mention that I'm finally catching up on the blog??!) - and it was fitting that I started my sessions with the Koehler family. I've had the great experience of photographing them several times throughout the years, and our very first session together was three years ago, at Wrightsville Beach! Back then, they were only a family of three, but they've expanded and only improved :) The two brothers, in a nearly im
