life is a (back to wrightsville) beach, pt. 4
I just have to start out with my very favorite image from this shoot with The Barber Family. How ingenious is this spontaneous move? I mean, the ultimate sun protection, right? And it's always nice to try a new look now & then... ...although these are quite lovely, as well... The blue of her eyes matched the sash in her dress (and her sister's, the next photo), which also matched the blue of the water as it thinned on the shore... Thank you to the low-flying seagull

Life is a (topsail) beach, pt. 3
The Shah Family all met up at Topsail Beach for a reunion week on the beach, and I showed up to find a big, high-energy family ready to play... Brother, sister, and all the wind blowing in the right direction. This is one of those fabulous moments - simply a gift to a photographer. She didn't like the feel of her underwear, so she decided to get some additional fresh air, and I had the wonderfully good fortune to be standing in the best position for the shot! Sometimes t

life is a (wrightsville) beach, pt. 2
Little Zeke was relishing his first feel of sand on his toes...and his parents were delighted by his confused and adorable reaction. I like to think of children looking at a photograph like this years later and really seeing out crazy their parents were - and hopefully still are!! - about them... The whole family is getting ready for Zeke's new little brother, on the way... Can anyone get enough of naked baby?? This is such a great moment - the way they are looking at ea

life is a (wrightsville) beach, pt. 1
I had a wonderful 4th of July week at Wrightsville Beach (did I mention that I'm finally catching up on the blog??!) - and it was fitting that I started my sessions with the Koehler family. I've had the great experience of photographing them several times throughout the years, and our very first session together was three years ago, at Wrightsville Beach! Back then, they were only a family of three, but they've expanded and only improved :) The two brothers, in a nearly im

wichita, kansas
I technically returned from Wichita this morning, arriving home around 1am after a whirlwind 2 1/2 days of shooting. I had the great pleasure of photographing The Gorecki family again, as well as a few of her wonderful friends and families. I met The Goreckis through the beautiful spa they own, Healing Waters, which is actually located right next to our studio (across from Southpoint Mall). I love their spa services!!! I had photographed their North Carolinian spa here fo

The Simmons Twins
Claire and Kalli came into the studio at 12 months old, and I got such a kick out of photographing them in their full twin adorableness. They were so high-energy and just plain fun, not to mention ridiculously adorable! A couple 5-series framed pieces of each girl - Kallie first... Then Claire... These two were absolutely in love with their blankies - serious obsession time. When their mommy brought out the blankets, they lit up like little Christmas trees and immediatel

The Hogan Family
Little Nicholas has an enviable energy level and his parents get huge kudos on keeping up with him!! We all met at Duke Gardens on a gorgeous morning and took advantage of pretty much having the park to ourselves. As a tree-hugging liberal myself, I always like to see the kids start young... This is a great image of Nicholas - he's frequently On The Move, and his in-motion stance certainly conveys that, but I also like really like his forward-looking expression, chin up,

the duncan family (just for you, marty!)
I had to call them the Duncan Family, even though they are technically the McConchie family - but I have photographed Charee, Marty and the family several times over the years, and I still keep referring to them by her maiden name. Duh. I visited the Duncan/McConchie's in their adorable new home in Chapel Hill with their new baby girl and very excited big brother! My favorite light is golden/green, which you can find pretty much anywhere, as long as you're looking for it..
