An Update, The Art of Children’s Portrait Photography
I have been receiving a wonderful number of emails and private messages about my book, The Art of Children's Portrait Photography, which released earlier this month. I have to admit: I am slightly amazed at the interest paid to it so far and at the rapid sales of the book. The comment I am hearing most often is that the book is out of stock at local bookstores for people. My understanding is that it is selling quite well, which is fantastic, but that it is being re-stocke

The November Cover of Endurance Magazine
First of, thanks so much to all those who went out or went online to buy the book. Apparently quite a lot of you, as it is still holding steady, overall, at the #1 in category (hourly fluctuations, ahhh, it's like the stock market!) on Amazon. So cool - thank you!!! This month's issue of Endurance Magazine features author Nicholas Sparks, who I met at his home in New Bern and photographed in the area. Since our shoot, his new book, The Lucky One, debuted at #1 on The Ne

The Art of Children’s Portrait Photography
Woah! It's crazy that this is true, but this is true... I have been so consumed with this intense & beautiful adoption, this intense & beautiful election, and my intense & beautiful client work catch up, that something huge happened this week...and I kinda missed it: My book released!!! WOW!!! The official book release date was November 1st, 2008, and it is apparently in bookstores (not that I'm there to see it) throughout the country - and in bookstores arou

Rangefinder’s October Issue & Platform at WPPI!
I just received the October issue of Rangefinder Magazine, and I love the layout of my follow-up article about the general election! This is not a re-post, by the way - the last time I put up an article, a few posts ago, it was September. This time it's October. See: totally different months. I do think it's so interesting how life can just open to what we are seeking. I remember being struck by how cool it was to be showcased in last November's issue. Less than one y

Image X – Sweet Model Munchkins
Image X has been a huge success, what a fun experience! I will post more about just how cool New Orleans has been and the luckiness I feel at having so many wonderful friends in the industry, esp. the few goofballs that elevate the hilarity level ;) But I wanted to show a few images from the shooting workshop. It's always so interesting to shoot with a group of photographers - it's an exercise first and foremost in teaching: expressing exactly what you're doing and why y

Off to Image X – New Orleans
I'm heading out this morning to New Orleans (via a cover shoot with a very cool subject in Charlotte, NC) for my last workshop of the year, Image X! (For those nutty last-minuters, I've been told that there are still a few spots left at the workshop) I'm really looking forward to seeing so many truly fantastic photographers down there - my fellow instructors AND the participants! - and hopefully seeing a lot of New Orleans. The workshop itself will take place in and around

Nicholas Sparks
Nicholas Sparks has a few things on his radar right now - the new movie, "Nights in Rodanthe", the new book, "The Lucky One" and more than a few other projects that have not been officially announced yet but sound quite cool. All worthy of great editorial coverage. We met at his house in New Bern, North Carolina. My fearless Studio Director, Lisa Walter, accompanied me on the shoot simply so we could knock out about five hours of administrative work on the trip there &

Rangefinder Magazine, September 2008
I am so excited about the new article I wrote for Rangefinder Magazine, "World Changers", actually developed from a section I created on this site (under "the display case" header) about some amazingly exceptional people I have had the honor of photographing. I have received some feedback in the past after posting a smaller version of the article about my photography in last November's issue that it was too small to read. And apparently just posting a link to the pdf was si

learnfest 08 - we have done what we have done ...
...and we can do no more :) We left the island pretty exhausted but so immensely pleased by the fantastic experience of learnfest at Bald Head Island. What a strikingly smart & talented collection of photographers!! In the end, I think learnfest was an exceptionally apt name, but we could have also gone with lovefest or learnfast. They would have worked, too. I will certainly have much more to post, as I am still digesting it all, but a few cute images of our gorgeou

what is waiting, bald head island
For all those who are en route or about to travel out to Bald Head Island for learnfest - we are quite excited for this week's workshop and so appreciate all the efforts you are making to study with me, Laura Novak, Lena Hyde and Audrey Woulard. We know it's a lot of time, effort and expense and that you are leaving very busy lives on hold just so that you can be here. We plan to make it more than worth it :) Our Monday evening cocktail party will be kicking off before you
