Mandala
I had the pleasure of spending this past Saturday with a bunch of fantastic kids ... What did they all have in common? They and their parents and their friends were all out for a fundraising effort for Mandala Adoption Services. Specifically, to support their humanitarian efforts with under-funded orphanages around the world. Not long ago, there was an article in the News & Observer that outlined some of the challenges facing the international adoption community rig

love in the real world
My exceptional friend Jesh de Rox and I are co-hosting a retreat at The Miraval Resort, "exploring love in the real world". We've been discussing what we want this retreat to be for quite some time. What we've known from the start is what it's not. We know that it's not a photography workshop or a technical learning experience. We love those, too, but this is not that. (If you are interested in that, please do check out the image x workshop, which is quite focused on es

3/4 of a Million Unique Hits
I noticed that we just looped past 750,000 unique hits on this blog since we launched it about nine months ago. That's a pretty amazing number of individuals coming by, and we're so thrilled that you do :) As a thank you, I leave you with this scathing, brilliant piece of investigative reporting on the part of Stephen Colbert. If you've been particularly sensitive to how the always-raging Cookies vs. Fruit controversy has been covered in the media, I must warn you: In thi

Rangefinder Magazine – The June Issue
The June issue of Rangefinder Magazine arrived this week with my 5-page feature - I wrote the piece and included the photography - and I'm so very happy with it!! You can read the full article on the Rangefinder Magazine website!. A special thanks to Editor Bill Hurter for his very cool writeup about the piece in his "insight" editor's note: A quick preview of the piece, page one:

Rangefinder Radio
I had the great pleasure of speaking with Scott Shepherd, of Rangefinder Radio, pretty recently about my article in Rangefinder Magazine's June issue (will post as soon as I see it!). It was a lot of fun to relive the experience of photographing candidates and sharing some more information about the in's & out's of a lot of that photographic adventure :) Rangefinder Radio is also available on itunes - take a listen if you're interested!.

learnfest almost sold out!
Over the last few weeks, I've received quite a few messages from photographers asking if I know when learnfest at Bald Head Island will sell out - my answer has always been the same, that I just didn't know exactly. Well, happily, it looks like registration has been zooming along, and we're getting close to selling out entirely. At this point, we have no plans for learnfest '09. Not to say it might never happen, just that we're only focusing on 2008 right now and just maki

All Together Now!! (Blog & Galleries)
Almost five months ago to the day, I called Brock Martin with Infinet Design, who created this lovely blog for us, and I asked him if we could create a design within the blog to incorporate the galleries (and all the studio details) that were currently housed on a separate website, which has been at tamaralackey.com. I had just heard so many people say they'd been to the portrait website but not the blog and the blog but not the wedding website, and it just seemed to make se

simply canvas in the studio
Patrick from Simply Canvas stopped in our studio (as part of his world tour) and was kind enough to take us out to lunch and catch up on all things gorgeously artful :) After chatting back & forth for weeks, it was great to sit down and chat about working together. I love offering these great pieces to our clients - thanks for coming by, Patrick - we all enjoyed meeting you and we love the beautiful canvas productions! from left to right: Rachel Garrison, me, Patrick

a fresh look at New Orleans
I received this very cool video from the Image X Workshop coordinators, and I loved seeing the beautiful imagery of the French Quarter in New Orleans. I haven't been back since I went to Jazz Fest, pre-Katrina, and I'm really looking forward to going back. The workshop is set up so that you can sign up for my class and one other photographer's - you can see the rundown of everyone and their classes on the Image X website. I'll also planning to stay for a few extra days to
