The Darcy Family
The last time I photographed the Darcy family, a couple of years ago, they were just a family of four. Since then, they added on a sweet Sophie, and it's funny how you just get the feeling like they were always supposed to be a family of five. You'd never know that it was about 2 degrees outside when we did this shoot - we managed to work around runny noses, super cold fingers and tons of laugh and cry breaks. But we had some gorgeous sunshine and two exceptionally easygoi

The Bartholomew Family
I met Neva Bartholomew through a mutual friend. You know how you like some people in such an easy way? We didn't become every day friends immediately, I simply liked her. We would later partner with a couple other friends and throw a Giving Party which produced some amazing results. And over time, I would learn more about her life and her family. And the more you know about The Bartholomews, the more you cannot help but admire them. First of all, Neva and Dave are both

Adventures with Jackie and Alex
Shooting Jackie & Alex was an adventure in home - we played inside their house, in each room throughout the upstairs, we were at the piano for an impromptu jam session - then out to the backyard, on the porch and in the front yard - and then we ended up in my cul-de-sac when all was said & done. Talk about using an entire location! Jackie has awesome eyes - check them out: The jam session - they make beautiful music together :) Alex is as smart as a whip and loves

the twins, the couple, the sand
I had the pleasure of photographing Sally & Todd's wedding a few years ago. Since then, I've seen them both out and about, especially at fun races around town, or when I caught them at the pool, usually training for some event. They definitely maximized their no-kids-yet-married time, especially their very cool trip to New Zealand, etc., to race at the Ironman competition and tour about on bikes. When Sally got pregnant, with twins, she still didn't slow down much - a

a chance encounter
So I was scampering about on the beach with some kids (i.e., shooting a beach session) when this woman walked up and asked if I could photograph her family, as well, since they would be on vacation for a few more days. They hadn't planned on a beach portrait but it looked like fun so she thought she'd check. I ended up being able to squeeze in this one extra shoot, and I was so glad I could because the McMahon family was cute, spirited and quite photogenic! The 3 daughter

the entire family at the island
I met with Kimrey and her extended family at Bald Head - I think there were about 20 people there in total (?) - we shot everyone together and apart and as they all ran about and played and splashed and danced. I have to start with my favorite photograph of the entire shoot. We started safely on the beach but everyone quickly moved to the water. This was a great moment - an attempt to look my way but the excitement and shock of the waves crashing in brought about this wo

Bald Head Island Light
I met up with Kelly and her family under a beautiful patch of early morning light at a secluded beach on Bald Head Island. They brought the star of the family along for a front & center close up.... They brought their other children along, as well :) She tried so hard to strike a pose... We made sure to get a record of every creature's prints. And that glorious light...

Ahhh, Bald Head Island....
It's about 38 degrees outside right now, so I thought it was a perfect time to announce the details for next year's beach shoots :) I will be traveling to the Outer Banks next August 10th - August 17th. It's also a perfect opportunity to showcase some fun images from my last session at the beach this year, at Bald Head Island. The beautiful Hogan family - images from the book I designed for them: Maternity images on the beach - I love the wind machine :) This was shot af

The Fama Family
I met little Lauren at her house (where she lives with her mommy and daddy). She was quite reserved at first, checking me out, not sure about the whole thing. But she warmed up considerably, and she was an adorable subject to photograph! ....One of the best ways to connect is over a simple cup of tea :) I love how young children can look you right in the eye while engaged in certain activities... I love the feel of this family photograph! Lauren warmed up all the way...

Giving Party - Results
Wow!! Thank you so much to all those who attended our Giving Party last night! At the end of the night, we counted up the donations, and we received $11,580 directly donated to our wonderful, worthy, beautiful, caring and not-for-profit-but-all-for-changing-the-world organizatons!!! Thank you, again, to Perri, Mary Beth and Neva, who really were the drive and energy and planning team behind this amazing event. And, on top of it all, the party was a heck of a lot of fun :)
